Why the Man Who Threw the Shoes at Bush is a Hero in the Moslem World

Bush, the Shoes and Islam
Author: Ohmyrus on Thursday, December 25, 2008 - 03:03 AM

[excerpt - read it all!]

America has spent one trillion dollars getting rid of Saddam Hussein and in fighting sectarian groups that threatened to tear Iraq apart. Had they [the sectarian groups] succeeded, there would have been a bloodbath.

All al Zaidi [the shoe-thrower-at-Bush] and other Muslims can think of is that American troops had killed Muslims. Any good that America has done for the Iraqis is not remembered. Never mind that Saddam Hussein was a blood-thirsty dictator that killed his own people. It was a blessing to be rid of him. Never mind that America has put in place a democracy - the only one of its kind in the Arab world today.

Tellingly, before the invasion, America was hated in the Muslim world for being too cozy with Muslim dictators. They accuse America of propping up corrupt dictators like Saddam Hussein that oppressed the Muslim people. But after the invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, America was hated for attacking Iraq and toppling him.

So America is hated no matter what it does since most Muslim believe that infidels are out to harm them. They interpret events in a way that fits their prejudices. We all do that, of course. But their prejudices came from Islam which portrays infidels as evil people out to harm Muslims. Thus Bush's hopes that US troops would be welcomed as liberators proved to be an illusion. He failed to understand Islam.

This failure is due to the political correctness in the western world that makes it difficult to criticize Islam. Islam is portrayed as a benign religion and from this flow all sorts of wrong policies. Allowing Muslim immigration to western countries, for example is a mistake that I believe will undermine western democracies. [2]

Whether the "Islamic" democracy that Bush forced on Iraq will endure as a country with a government friendly towards the United States remains to be seen.

Pakistani Americans elated over Mumbai massacre, spew extreme hatred and venom towards Hindus and Jews — must read
Posted by jagoindia on December 25, 2008

Source: The below remarks in an online forum are from a well respected Indian Muslim community leader in the United States

Dear xx sb,Obviously Daniel Pipes is an extreme Muslim basher who is trying his best to harm Muslims.

Yet, let me tell you that just a few days ago in a gathering of mostly Pakistani Muslims I heard some of the worst denial about the direct involvement of Pakistani Muslim terrorists in the Mumbai massacre. Those people also spewed the worst hatred trowards Jews and Hindus to me. While condemning terrorism per se they also indirectly provided alibi and rationale for the Mumbai massacre. They said point blank to me that Jews and Hindus are the worst enemies of Muslims who have been killing and oppressing them for long time so the killing of Hindus and Jews in Mumbai was just poetic justice. They told me that in India Muslims are constantly oppressed and treated like slaves by Hindus so why am I feeling sad at their killing in Mumbai.

They said Jews are massacring Muslims so why am I sad that some Jews were killed in Mumbai.
They told me that America is trying its best to get Pakistani Muslims humiliated at the hands of Hindus, whereas these are the people who have hurt Muslims so much for so long. All of them are very well educated and professional people. I was shocked that they had so much venon against Jews and Hindus, and they were drawing some satisfaction from the killing of Jews and Hindus in Mumbai.

In fact these Pakistani Muslims asked me that among Hindus I should defend Pakistan against the false American/Indian charges of harboring terrorists in their country.
In the American Muslim political scene Pakistanis are dominant. Now you can imagine how their strong bias against Jews and Hindus hurts the efforts of the American-Muslim community in trying to get into mainsatream US political secene.

Who Paid for the Pilgrimage to Mecca for the U.S. Muslim Congressman?

from Jihad Watch

The Muslim Brotherhood "must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions." -- "An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America," by Mohamed Akram, May 19, 1991.

What does that have to do with Congressman Ellison? Everything. The Muslim American Society paid for his Hajj[*]. And what is the Muslim American Society? The Muslim Brotherhood.

Twenty Muslim Strategies To Conquer The United States

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POST REGARDING ISLAMIC PLANS TO CONQUER THE UNITED STATES WITHOUT OPEN VIOLENCE THAT YOU WILL EVER READ. PLEASE DO NOT DISREGARD THIS WARNING.

Twenty Muslim Strategies To Conquer The United States by Dr. Anis Shorrosh

Twenty Muslim Strategies To Conquer The US

Dr. Anis Shorrosh lists below twenty Islamic strategies that are being used to take over the United States without firing a bullet:

1. Terminate America’s freedom of speech by replacing it with hate crime bills state-wide and nation-wide.

2. Wage a war of words using black leaders like Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jesse Jackson and other visible religious personalities to promote Islam as the original African-American’s religion while Christianity is for the whites! Strange enough, no one tells the African-Americans that it was the Arab Muslims who captured them and sold them as slaves, neither the fact that in Arabic the word for black and slave is the same, “Abed.”

3. Engage the American public in dialogues, discussions, debates in colleges, universities, public libraries, radio, TV, churches and mosques on the virtues of Islam. Proclaim how it is historically another religion like Judaism and Christianity with the same monotheistic faith.

4. Nominate Muslim sympathizers to political office for favorable legislation to Islam and support potential sympathizers by block voting.

5. Take control of as much of Hollywood, the press, TV, radio and the internet by buying the corporations or a controlling stock.

6. Yield to the fear of imminent shut-off of the lifeblood of America - the black gold. America’s economy depends on oil, (1000 products are derived from oil), so does its personal and industrial transportation and manufacturing -41%comes from the Middle East.

7. Yell, “foul, out-of-context, personal interpretation, hate crime, Zionist, un- American, inaccurate interpretation of the Quran” anytime Islam is criticized or the Quran is analyzed in the public arena.

8. Encourage Muslims to penetrate the White House, specifically with Islamists who can articulate a marvelous and peaceful picture of Islam. Acquire government positions, get membership in local school boards. Train Muslims as medical doctors to dominate the medical field, research and pharmaceutical companies. Take over the computer industry. Establish Middle Eastern restaurants throughout the U.S. to connect planners of Islamization in a discreet way. Ever notice how numerous Muslim doctors in America are, when their countries need them more desperately than America?

9. Accelerate Islamic demographic growth via:

a. Massive immigration (100,000 annually since 1961)

b. No birth control whatsoever - every baby of Muslim parents is automatically a Muslim and cannot choose another religion later.

c. Muslim men must marry American women and Islamize them (10,000 annually). Then divorce them and remarry every five years - since one cannot have the Muslim legal permission to marry four at one time. This is a legal solution in America.

d. Convert angry, alienated black inmates and turn them into militants (so far 2000 released inmates have joined Al Qaida world-wide). Only a few have been captured in Afghanistan and on American soil. So far - sleeping cells!

10. Reading, writing, arithmetic and research through the American educational system, mosques and student centers (now 1500) should be sprinkled with dislike of Jews, evangelical Christians and democracy. There are 300 exclusively Muslim schools with loyalty to the Quran, not the U.S. Constitution.

11. Provide very sizeable monetary Muslim grants to colleges and universities in America to establish “Centers for Islamic studies” with Muslim directors to promote Islam in higher education institutions.

12. Let the entire world know through propaganda, speeches, seminars, local and national media that terrorists have hijacked Islam, not the truth, which is Islam hijacked the terrorists. Furthermore in January of 2002, Saudi Arabia’s Embassy in Washington mailed 4500 packets of the Quran, videos, promoting Islam to America’s high schools–free. They would never allow us to reciprocate.

13. Appeal to the historically compassionate and sensitive Americans for sympathy and tolerance towards the Muslims in America who are portrayed as mainly immigrants from oppressed countries.

14. Nullify America’s sense of security by manipulating the intelligence community with misinformation. Periodically terrorize Americans of impending attacks on bridges, tunnels, water supplies, airports, apartment buildings and malls. (We have experienced this too often since 9-11.)

15. Form riots and demonstrations in the prison system demanding Islamic Sharia as the way of life, not American’s justice system.

16. Open numerous charities throughout the U.S. but use the funds to support Islamic terrorism with American dollars.

17. Raise interest in Islam on America’s campuses by insisting that freshman take at least one course on Islam. Be sure that the writer is a bonafide American, Christian, scholarly and able to cover up the violence in the Quran and express the peaceful, spiritual and religious aspect only.

18. Unify the numerous Muslim lobbies in Washington, mosques, Islamic student centers, educational organizations, magazines and papers by internet and an annual convention to coordinate plans, propagate the faith and engender news in the media of their visibility.

19. Send intimidating messages and messengers to the outspoken individuals who are critical of Islam and seek to eliminate them by hook or crook.

20. Applaud Muslims as loyal citizens of the US by spotlighting their voting record as the highest percentage of all minority and ethic groups in America.

Dr. Anis Shorrosh, D.Min, D.Phil, and a member of Oxford Society of Scholars, has traveled in 76 countries. He is a Palestinian Arab Christian American, who is an author, lecturer and producer of TV documentaries. He is author of the best-seller “Islam Revealed” and his tenth book - “Islam: A Threat or a Challenge.” - was published in the spring, 2003.

Is there an "Arab World?"

Arab World ? A Myth!
by Jugurten
http://www.kabylia.info/arab-world-myth

[excerpt]

[a Berber (a Kabyle) is speaking]

And this brings me to the idea of the arab world: I remember vaguely that I was told some folks in Algiers and surrounding area spoke a strange language, a mixture of berber and Arabic… Although theses people were berbers, I know this since many of them happened to be my cousins; one would call them arabs… Why? Don’t ask me.. Because the answer is simple.

When the first French settlers came to what they named Algeria, they assumed the country’s people were arabs. As simple as that.

For us Kabyle, we never asked ourselves the question as to what we were, it would have been absurd. But today, we realize the History had failed us.

When Algeria was busy fighting to recover its independence, some dark forces were at work, in the shadows of foreign lands. Somewhere in the middle east, some Algerians had the idea that if they aligned them selves with the so called arab world, they would get badly needed help.

How wrong they were!

Enough of Radical Islam

The following article by Ben Shapiro is one of the best so far to come out of the Mumbai jihad. (Thanks to RealClearPolitics.com)
--Bill Warner

Enough of Radical Islam

By Ben Shapiro
December 04,

Enough with the pseudonyms. Western civilization isn't at war with terrorism any more than it is at war with grenades. Western civilization is at war with militant Islam, which dominates Muslim communities all over the world. Militant Islam isn't a tiny minority of otherwise goodhearted Muslims. It's a dominant strain of evil that runs rampant in a population of well over 1 billion.

Enough with the psychoanalysis. They don't hate us because of Israel. They don't hate us because of Kashmir. They don't hate us because we have troops in Saudi Arabia or because we deposed Saddam Hussein. They don't hate us because of Britney Spears. They hate us because we are infidels, and because we don't plan on surrendering or providing them material aid in their war of aggressive expansion.

Enough with the niceties. We don't lose our souls when we treat our enemies as enemies. We don't undermine our principles when we post more police officers in vulnerable areas, or when we send Marines to kill bad guys, or when we torture terrorists for information. And we don't redeem ourselves when we close Guantanamo Bay or try terrorists in civilian courts or censor anti-Islam comics. When it comes to war, extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, and moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

Enough with the words. Talking with Iran without wielding the threat of force, either economic or military, won't help. Appealing to the United Nations, run by thugs and dictators ranging from Putin to Chavez to Ahmadinejad, is an exercise in pathetic futility. Evil countries don't suddenly decide to abandon their evil goals -- they are forced to do so by pressure and circumstance.

Enough with the faux allies. We don't gain anything by pretending that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are true allies. They aren't. At best, they are playing both sides of the table. We ought to be drilling now in order to break OPEC. Building windmills isn't going to cut it. We should also be backing India to the hilt in its current conflict with Pakistan -- unless Pakistan can destroy its terrorist element, India should be given full leeway to do what it needs to do. Russia and China, meanwhile, are facilitating anti-Western terrorism. Treating them as friends in this global war is simply begging for a backstabbing.

Enough with the myths. Not everyone on earth is crying out for freedom. There are plenty of people who are happy in their misery, believing that their suffering is part and parcel of a correct religious system. Those people direct their anger outward, targeting unbelievers. We cannot simply knock off dictators and expect indoctrinated populations to rise to the liberal democratic challenge. The election of Hamas in the Gaza Strip is more a rule than an exception in the Islamic world.

Enough with the lies. Stop telling us that Islam is a religion of peace. If it is, prove it through action. Stop telling us that President-elect Barack Obama will fix our broken relationship with the Muslim world. They hate Obama just as much as they hated President George W. Bush, although they think Obama is more of a patsy than Bush was. Stop telling us that we shouldn't worry about the Islamic infiltration of our economy. If the Saudis own a large chunk of our banking institutions and control the oil market, they can certainly leverage their influence in dangerous ways.

Enough. After the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, the plane downed in Pennsylvania, the endless suicide bombings, shootings and rocket attacks in Israel, the Bali bombings, the synagogue bombing in Tunisia, the LAX shootings, the Kenyan hotel bombing, the Casablanca attacks, the Turkey synagogue attacks, the Madrid bombings, the London bombings, and the repeated attacks in India culminating in the Mumbai massacres -- among literally thousands of others -- it's about time that the West got the point: we're in a war. Our enemies are determined. They will not quit just because we offer them Big Macs, Christina Aguilera CDs, or even the freedom to vote. They will not quit just because we ensure that they have Korans in their Guantanamo cells, or because we offer to ban "The Satanic Verses" (as India did). They will only quit when they are dead. It is our job to make them so, and to eliminate every obstacle to their destruction.

So enough. No more empty talk. No more idle promises. No more happy ignorance, half measures, or appeasement-minded platitudes. The time for hard-nosed, uncompromising action hasn't merely come -- it's been overdue by seven years. The voice of our brothers' blood cries out from the ground.

Muslims deeply and seemingly permanently settle into the land, but not into the society

If You Have To Ask, You Can't Afford It
by Hugh Fitzgerald
http://www.newenglishreview.org/blog_category.cfm?cat_id=11

"It is undoubtedly necessary to integrate the Muslims who are here. What other choice is there?"
-- from a reader, the citizen of a country in Western Europe

It may be "undoubtedly necessary" to "integrate" those Muslims who happen to have, in a fit of criminal negligence, been admitted in large numbers into the advanced, entirely too generous, countries of Western Europe, some of which have made a fetish, an Idol of the Age, out of ill-thought-through Diversity and Tolerance, including the toleration of the murderously and immutably intolerant.

But what if those Muslims who have been allowed to settle, in such great and ever-increasing numbers, deep behind what they themselves are taught to regard as enemy lines, cannot -- because of the very nature of Islam, the immutability of its texts, the slamming-shut more than a millennium ago of the Gates to Ijtihad, the effect, the hold, on the minds of the primitive (and most men are primitive, which is why their belief-system had better be a largely innocuous or even conceivably an ennobling one, to begin with) Muslim masses, who may learn French, and acquire a suave Western veneer -- see Tariq Ramadan, notre Frere Tariq, that respectable Euro-Islamic prud'homme -- but remain deeply and disturbingly hostile to the legal and political institutions, and to the artistic expression, and free and skeptical inquiry, and solicitude for the individual (for Islam is incurably collectivist, and the individual "slave of Allah" is as nothing, he is merely part of the Army of Islam, and any attempts to jettison Islam by an individual are consequently treated as treasonm, deserving of death).

The poster seems to have a limited historical knowledge, and limited imagination. It was within living memory that one of the most advanced and liberal countries in the Western world, Czechoslovakia, then led by those European statesmen, Masaryk (son of the famous Tomas, founder of modern Czechoslovakia), and Benes, decided that for security reasons, based on evidence of past behavior but not on any present threat, the Sudeten Germans, three million of them, should be expelled from Czechoslovakia to Deutschtum -- mainly Germany (Austria was still playing the role of "first victim of the Nazis" for all those willing to listen). Not a single advanced Czech, then or since -- not the poet Jaroslav Seifert, not General Ludovik Svoboda, not sad-eyed sweet Aleksandr Dubcek, not Milan Kundera or Milos Forman, or Vaclav Havel (who did on a state trip to Austria admit that the "execution" of the relevant Benes Decree, left something to be desired, something to be regretted). And when those ethnic Germans were expelled -- many had enthusiastically collaborated with the Hitler regime, both before the outbreak of war (allowing themselves to be used for the purposes of propaganda, as they staged riots that would, they knew, be put down by Czech police and these reported scenes would be used to justify taking sides with the "Sudeteners" and their "legitimate rights" by such fools as Sir Basil Runciman, who undertook the Runciman Mission in 1938 to establish, as Runciman said, a "comprehensive and a lasting peace." Connoisseurs of Carter and Brzezinski and others who have been pressuring Israel unbearably for the past several decades will not fail to note the echo.

All over the world, all through history and even in the past decades and past centuries, transfers of populations have been deemed necessary or advisable, by one side, or another, or sometimes both. Think of the Greeks and Turks in the 1920s, Hindus and Muslims at the time of Partition -- have taken place. The Muslim Arabs have not hesitated even to expel huge numbers of other Muslim Arabs -- Libya expelled Egyptians, Kuwait expelled, overnight, 400,000 "Palestinians" after the aid and comfort they gave Saddam Hussein's invaders, Saudi Arabia from time to time expels hundreds of thousands of Yemeni workers at a time, Iraq has expelled Egyptians, Algeria has expelled Moroccans and Morocco Algerians, and so on, by the tens and hundreds of thousands.

The Western world has generally not done so, but it did when it had to, or when a justifiable case was made, and it was made, by little Czechoslovakia, in 1946.

"What else can we do?" says that poster above. If you have to ask, you can't afford it. What's "it"? Oh, "it" to begin with is that continuing, and permanently dangerous, Muslim immigration to Western countries. "It" is permitting Saudi and other outside Arab money to come in to pay for mosques, madrasas, propaganda, campaigns of Da'wa. "It" is anything that allows Muslims, as Muslims, to become deeply and seemingly permanently settled into the land, but not into the society, that was once so securely Infidel.

No, I must repeat: If you have to ask "what else can we do?" then you can't afford... "it."

Remember Pearl Harbor

U.S.S. Arizona December 7, 1941

from Atlas Shrugs:

December 7, 1941, When men were men and America knew who she was

Victor Davis Hanson on December 7, 1941

QUESTION: How many U.S. Navy ships were destroyed when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor?

ANSWER: Eighteen were sunk or heavily damaged. Five of the eight U.S. battleships in port sank (California, Nevada and West Virginia were rebuilt; Arizona was a total loss; Oklahoma was raised but scrapped.) Six cruisers and destroyers were sunk. The Pacific fleet aircraft carriers, the Enterprise, Lexington and Saratoga, were at sea and not harmed in the Dec. 7, 1941 assault -- 67 years ago today.
http://www.freep.com/article/20081207/NEWS07/812070404/1009/NEWS07

When the attack ended shortly before 10:00 a.m., less than two hours after it began, the American forces has paid a feae [sic ?] battleships USS Arizona (BB-39), USS California (BB-44), USS Maryland (BB-46), USS Nevada (BB-36), USS Oklahoma (BB-37), USS Pennsylvania (BB-38), USS Tennessee (BB-43) and USS West Virginia (BB-48); cruisers USS Helena (CL-50), USS Honolulu (CL-48) and USS Raleigh (CL-7); the destroyers USS Cassin (DD-372), USS Downes (DD-375), USS Helm (DD-388) and USS Shaw (DD-373); seaplane tender USS Curtiss (AV-4); target ship (ex-battleship) USS Utah (AG-16); repair ship USS Vestal (AR-4); minelayer USS Oglala (CM-4); tug USS Sotoyomo (YT-9); and Floating Drydock Number 2. Aircraft losses were 188 destroyed and 159 damaged, the majority hit before the had a chance to take off. American dead numbered 2,403. That figure included 68 civilians, most of them killed by improperly fused anti-aircraft shells landing in Honolulu. There were 1,178 military and civilian wounded.

Japanese losses were comparatively light. Twenty-nine planes, less than 10 percent of the attacking force, failed to return to their carriers.

We Remembered Pearl Harbor!

At 7:55 Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, Japanese warplanes unleashed the attack that would mark the U.S. entry into World War II. More than 2,335 soldiers, sailors and Marines died, along with 68 civilians.

Reunion of Pearl Harbor attack Survivors

Ceremonies at Pearl Harbor marking the 65th anniversary of the attack in 2006 were expected to be the last major reunion of survivors. That gathering drew 385 survivors, said Muehleib, 86, of Virginia Beach, Va., who was in the Army Air Corps at Hickam Field for the attack. In 1991, an estimated 4,000 traveled to Pearl Harbor for 50th anniversary ceremonies. About 100 attended the 2001 ceremonies.

USS Arizona memorial is a hallowed place
Tucson, Arizona Published: 12.07.2008

advertisementToday is the 67th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States' entry into World War II. The following updates an editorial that ran Dec. 7, 2006.

A visit to the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor in Hawaii is a retreat into a hallowed space.

A still, silent place wrapped in the beauty of the Pacific Ocean, it is a refuge for respectful reflection.

Visitors to the USS Arizona Memorial, a national park, arrive early in the day, get a ticket and wait for up to two hours with the hundreds of others wanting a better understanding of our nation's history.

The visitors are of all ages; many are extended families with grandpas and grandchildren sharing the experience. There are more than 1.5 million visitors from many nations to Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial annually.

Before a Navy launch carries you across the harbor waters to the memorial, you'll have time to wander and view the displays. The exhibits and the film have an emotional impact, but they are largely informative, educational and academic. The memorial, however, is personal.

As a Pacific breeze blows across the memorial, which straddles the battleship, the sunken ship is visible below the lapping, shallow waters. It is impossible to forget that it is the tomb of 1,177. You pray, ponder, reflect in a milieu of profound sadness.

Unfortunately, the museum and visitor center is deteriorating. It must be rebuilt so that future generations can fully remember and appreciate the history-altering day and aftermath.

The good news is that the $58 million campaign for a larger facility with a museum that would protect artifacts from the elements is progressing well. The contract to construct the visitor center and museum was awarded by the Navy on Sept. 22., 2008. Groundbreaking was Nov. 5.

The expanded Pearl Harbor Memorial Museum and Visitor Center will be almost double the current size and will have research and education facilities and more amenities.
The facility promises to be an appropriate commemoration.

It’s been 67 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor took place.

Today, we honor those who lost their lives during the attack on Dec. 7, 1941. A memorial ceremony will be held at Pearl Harbor’s Kilo Pier from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. A moment of silence will be observed at 7:55 a.m.—the exact time the first wave of bombs struck Pearl Harbor. Admission is free.

In the November/December 2008 issue of HAWAII Magazine, we take you along on a visit I took to the USS Arizona Memorial. A handful of my photos from the trip appeared in the magazine. Here's the rest of the collection, in a slideshow below. (Click on the slideshow frame to enlarge photos.) See 2008/12/7/Hawaii_Magazine_USS_Arizona_Memorial_visit

I also took a video of my trip. As you can see, many people were truly touched and moved by their time on the memorial as well.

You can read about the rest of my visit in our Pearl Harbor feature story, “Remembering the Battle,” featured in our November/December 2008 issue, which is available at most national bookstores and newsstands, by print subscription and in a digital format you can download today.

Remembering Pearl Harbor
POSTED: December 7, 2008
Hilton Sollid, Minot, North Dakota

After three weeks of basic training, we were shipped to Pearl Harbor. Upon arriving there eight months after the attack, a lot of improvement had been made in reconstruction, etc. Of course, the most destruction, the destroyed ships, were still lying there, especially "Battleship Row," where lies the USS Utah, USS Nevada, the USS Oklahoma, the USS Arizona and some destroyers, as I remember. The Arizona laid near the shore of Ford Island, a small strip of land inside the Pearl Harbor.

We were assigned to Grumman F6F fighter planes. We serviced and worked on these planes for the carriers that came into the harbor. Incidentally, at the time of the attack, all the aircraft carriers were out to sea fortunately.

From the barracks where we stayed, we would drive not too far from the Arizona to our hangar where we worked as machinists mates. After driving past there for many months, I didn't realize the significance of the tragedy that lay there until years later when it became a shrine thousands of visitors would come to see.

At that time they were "righting the USS Oklahoma," which lay on its side. Finally after it was upright, they dismantled the superstructure with intentions of towing it to San Francisco to put on display and at the same time to sell war bonds.

Now, during that time, rumors flew fast, and the one was that it had broken apart in rough seas en route to California.

After 20 months at Pearl, I returned to Seattle, June 6, 1944, D Day. The flags were waving, the bells were ringing.

I remember President Roosevelt talking on the radio saying, "A dastardly attack on Dec. 7, 1941 ... A day that will live in infamy."

In 1979, my wife and I went back. What a change. We weren't allowed to go on Ford Island, which is restricted. I would like to have seen my old haunts, which, of course, really changed I suppose. We went aboard a motor launch to the Arizona, which has a large platform over it, holding hundreds of people. As you look down on the sunken ship, not visible now, there is an occasional bubble of oil rising to the surface after all these years.

The people stood in solemn silence, thinking of all those lying below.

The veterans of this past war are fast leaving this world and as wars of the past this one, too, will fade into history.

Veteran rejoins fallen shipmates
Remains of a sailor from the USS Arizona will be placed at his station on the ship
By Gregg K. Kakesako
POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Dec 07, 2008

http://www.starbulletin.com/ > News > Hawaii News >

Seven years ago, former USS Arizona crewman Charles William "Bill" Guerin learned that upon his death, his remains could be entombed with his fallen shipmates on the sunken battleship.

"He thought about it and we talked about it for a long time," said his wife of 63 years, Margaret Guerin. "He never forgot all those men who went down with the ship. He said, 'I would like to be down with them.' That was why he chose to be buried there."

This afternoon, following the ceremonies marking the 67th anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack, Bill Guerin's remains will be placed in the well of gun turret 4, which was his battle station.

The Arizona lost 1,177 crew members during the Japanese attack. The remains of more than 1,000 are entombed there.

Of the 334 who survived the attack, Guerin and 31 of his shipmates chose to be buried there. Only veterans who were assigned to the USS Arizona at the time of the attack qualify for burial there.

Guerin, a resident of Bellevue, Neb., was 85 when he died on Dec. 22, 2007, in Omaha, Neb.

Today, his wife, Margaret, son Michael, daughter Diane, granddaughter Janice Rose, nieces Debra Stevenson and Terry Lou Brown, and nephews Terry Stevenson and Rick Hodgen will watch while National Park Service divers take Guerin's urn and place it in gun turret 4.

At 18, Guerin enlisted while still in high school in Idaho because jobs were scare then.

In March 1941 he was assigned to the Arizona as a gunner's mate while the battleship was being overhauled at the Bremerton Navy Yard near Seattle.

On Dec. 7, 1941, Guerin was finishing his breakfast when the bombs started falling.

En route to his battle station below turret 4, he felt two large explosions that made the entire ship shudder, his wife said. When water started to rise in his compartment, Guerin and the other sailors realized they had to leave.

Guerin, according to his biography, realized what had occurred after he crawled out of the turret to Arizona's main deck.

"It was a total shock," Guerin said in his biography. "I don't believe I was very scared ... but it did stop you in disbelief. Let's put it that way 'cause it is a shock when you're 19 years old and you're faced with an unknown you don't know nothing about. No one is trained for that kind of situation. You know you have drills, but you're really not prepared for anything like this."

Margaret said her husband and other Arizona sailors dove into the burning water surrounding the battleship and swam to Ford Island.

Guerin was later assigned to the destroyer USS MacDonough, which participated in operations at Wake Island, Truk, Bougainvillea, Salamanua, Lae, Guadalcanal, Savo Island, New Guinea, the Aleutian Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Mariana Islands and Guam. Guerin transferred to the Air Force in 1947 and was assigned to the Strategic Air Command, participating in the Berlin Airlift before retiring as a master sergeant in 1962.

With his wife, he managed apartment complexes and trailer parks in California and Idaho after leaving the Air Force.

Guerin's family will be among more than 2,000 people expected to attend the National Park Service and the Navy's joint memorial ceremony this morning at Pearl Harbor's Kilo Pier.

Pearl Harbor commemoration to focus on US response
By HERBERT A. SAMPLE

HONOLULU (AP) — With an eye on the immediate aftermath of the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, thousands of World War II veterans and other observers are expected on Sunday to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the devastating Japanese military raid.

The theme of the event — "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor" — is something of a departure from the past.

Usually, the commemoration focuses on the attack on the USS Arizona, Pearl Harbor and several other installations on Oahu. But this year's remembrance ceremony will center more on the months following the raid, said Eileen Martinez, chief of interpretation for the National Park Service.

"We're moving into the Pacific War, the first strike back," she said.

To that end, one of two keynote speakers will be Thomas Griffin, a surviving member of the pilots and crew who answered the Pearl Harbor attack four months later with an aircraft carrier-launched bomber raid on Tokyo.

The B-25 mission, led by Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle, inflicted little damage on Japan but boosted morale in America and led the embarrassed Japanese government to launch an ill-fated attack on Midway Island.

The other keynote address will be delivered by Admiral Robert F. Willard, commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Sunday's commemoration will feature a performance by the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, morning colors, a Hawaiian blessing, a rifle salute by the U.S. Marine Corps and a recognition of those who survived the attack.

At 7:55 a.m., when the attack began 67 years ago, a moment of silence will be observed. The destroyer USS Chung-Hoon will render honors to the USS Arizona, which still lies beneath the harbor with its dead.

Almost 2,400 Americans were killed and nearly 1,180 injured when Japanese fighters bombed and sank 12 naval vessels and heavily damaged nine others on Dec. 7, 1941. The Arizona, which sank in less than nine minutes after an armor-piercing bomb breached its deck and exploded in the ship's ammunition magazine, lost 1,177 sailors and marines. About 340 of its crew survived.

Other major installations on Oahu, such as Wheeler Field and Kaneohe Naval Air Station, also were attacked.

This year's ceremony comes weeks after construction began on a new visitor's center for the USS Arizona Memorial. The existing center, which was built 28 years ago on reclaimed land, is sinking. Officials have said it will be unusable in a few years.

This year's event will be held a half-mile away at Kilo Pier of Naval Station Pearl Harbor, the site for next year's commemoration as well. The new visitor's center is scheduled to open Dec. 7, 2010.

The Murderer as Hero or Dying to Tread the Moral High Ground

"The idea that hat an armed killer's only rights are a noose or a firing squad is an American value that has been stomped out, so that a handful of states must battle long and hard for decades simply to execute the occasional murderer."
--Sultan Knish

Click on the Sultan's name above and be prepared to weep. Or if you are not possessed with "the need to be better than the terrorists, about violence not accomplishing anything, and about finding common ground, and that whole litany of moral idiocy," as Sultan Knish says, you might feel anger flare up before you collapse with the sense of utter helplessness.

But wait! Isn't there another emotion that you can summon up? Find out if you can, and be comforted in that you are not alone.

Because the "civilized thing thing" to do" is "hunting down and killing those responsible, without thinking twice about it."

And there will be enough of us to do that. No matter on whose shoulders the responsibility is placed .

We must adopt the attitude of "Unko bachana kaun chahega (Who will want to save them)?"

[A] British couple recently convicted of having sex on a beach in Dubai may have been freed and deported to the UK after their three-month prison sentence was suspended, but others haven't been so lucky. According to the Lonely Planet guide to the city, one British tourist was arrested at Dubai airport and sentenced to four years in prison after 0.03g of cannabis - an amount “smaller than a grain of sugar and invisible to the human eye” - was found on the stub of a cigarette stuck to the sole of his shoe. Meanwhile, a Swiss man was reportedly imprisoned after customs officers found three poppy seeds on his clothes (they had fallen off a bread roll he had eaten at Heathrow), and a British woman was held in custody for two months before customs officers conceded that the codeine that she was using for her back problems had been prescribed by a doctor.

Media Distortions and Lies Trigger Islamic Murderers' Atrocities

Media Narratives Feed Terrorist Fantasies
By BRET STEPHENS
http://sec.online.wsj.com/article/SB122818128240470999.html

For purposes of self-justification, Azam Amir Kasab, the only terrorist taken alive in last week's Mumbai massacre, offered that the murder of Jews in the city's Chabad House was undertaken to avenge Israeli atrocities on Palestinians. Two other terrorists cited instances of anti-Muslim Hindu violence as the answer to the question, "Why are you doing this to us?" before mowing down 14 unarmed people at the Oberoi Hotel. And if dead terrorists could talk, we would surely hear Abu Ghraib mentioned as among their reasons for singling out U.S. and British hostages.

One suspects the terrorists spent far too much time listening to the BBC World Service.

Let's hasten to add that by no means should the BBC alone be singled out. When it comes to terrorists and their grievances, nearly all the Western media have provided them with a rich diet on which to feed.

In the spring of 2005, Newsweek ran with a thinly sourced item about the Quran being flushed down a Guantanamo toilet. Result: At least 15 people were killed in Afghan riots.

Newsweek later retracted the story, which was the right thing to do but also, in its way, exceptional. Compare that to the refusal of French reporter Charles Enderlin and his station, France 2, to retract or even express doubt about his September 2000 report on Mohammed al-Durrah, the 12-year-old Palestinian boy allegedly killed by Israeli soldiers during an exchange of gunfire in the Gaza Strip -- an exchange Mr. Enderlin did not witness.

In an exhaustive piece in the June 2003 issue of the Atlantic, James Fallows observed that the evidence that the boy could not have been shot by an Israeli bullet is overwhelming, while the evidence that the entire incident was staged is, at the very least, impressive. In France, the story has been the subject of various lawsuits. In Israel, however, and throughout the Muslim world, Durrah became the poster child for a five-year intifada that took several thousand lives.

Maybe Durrah was somewhere in the minds of the Mumbai killers. If not, there was no shortage of other Israeli "atrocities" for them to choose from, mostly fictitious or trumped up and all endlessly cited in Western media reports: the "siege" of Gaza; the 2002 Jenin "massacre"; the 1982 massacres (by Lebanese Phalangists) in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Beirut; the execution of Egyptian POWs in 1967.

All these fables have real-world consequences, and not only for Israelis. In July 2006, an American named Naveed Afzal Haq ambled into the offices of the Seattle Jewish Federation and shot six people, killing one. One of the survivors testified that Mr. Haq "stated that he was a Muslim, [and] this was his personal statement against Jews and the Bush administration for giving money to Jews, and for us Jews for giving money to Israel, about Hezbollah, the war in Iraq." Wherever did he get those ideas?

As it turns out, often from terrorist suspects themselves, offering their testimonials of Israeli or U.S. malevolence to a credulous Western media. In the Quran-in-the-toilet imbroglio, for instance, the Nation's Ari Berman filed a piece titled "Newsweek Was Right," which cited accounts by former Guantanamo detainees of how their captors abused the Holy Book. Unmentioned in any of this were the instructions contained in al Qaeda's "Manchester Document," obtained by British police in 2000, that told followers to "complain of mistreatment while in prison" and "insist on proving that torture was inflicted on them by State Security."

Or consider the tale of Ali Shalal Qaissi, the subject of a New York Times story in March 2006. Mr. Qaissi, founder of the Association of Victims of American Occupation Prisons, claimed to be the black-hooded man standing on a box, attached to wires, ghoulishly photographed by the Abu Ghraib jailers. The Times thought enough of his story to put it on page one, until it turned out he wasn't the man.

A March 18, 2006, "Editor's Note" tells us something about how these stories make it to print:

"The Times did not adequately research Mr. Qaissi's insistence that he was the man in the photograph. Mr. Qaissi's account had already been broadcast and printed by other outlets, including PBS and Vanity Fair, without challenge. Lawyers for former prisoners at Abu Ghraib vouched for him. Human rights workers seemed to support his account."

Of course, it's always possible to fall for a well-told lie. But it's worth wondering why a media that treats nearly every word uttered by the U.S., British or Israeli governments as inherently suspect has proved so consistently credulous when it comes to every dubious or defamatory claim made against those governments. Or, for that matter, why the media has been so intent on magnifying genuine scandals (like Abu Ghraib) to the point that they become the moral equivalent of 9/11. Some caution is in order: Terrorists, of all people, might actually believe what they read in the papers.

Mumbai's Lesson: It Pays To Listen

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY
Posted Tuesday, December 02, 2008 4:20 PM PT

War On Terror: U.S. warnings beginning in October of an imminent terror attack didn't save India. And if Democrats continue to doubt the value of aggressive terrorist surveillance, America can expect the same fate.

Read More: Global War On Terror

The world was stunned by the murder last week of nearly 200 people in India's financial capital, Mumbai, apparently by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, which demands the end of Indian rule in Kashmir and Islamist rule throughout South Asia.

The seven-plus years of remarkable safety America has enjoyed have had the unfortunate side effect of lulling all too many of us into complacency about the reality of the 21st century. (This is why we at Investor's Business Daily mark the 11th of every month with a reminder to readers of the attack of Sept. 11, 2001, running photographs of some of the tragic or heroic events that took place that day.)

The prevention of a repeat of 9/11 wasn't magic. Nor was it luck.

We have our courageous law enforcement officers at the federal, state and local level to thank.

And we have the unsung heroes working in secrecy within the National Security Agency, monitoring telephone and computer communications that may come from or go to terrorists to thank, as well as the intelligence operatives working for the CIA and other spy agencies, some of whom gather lifesaving information in exotic ways.

Perhaps most importantly, we have our outgoing commander in chief to thank, the much-maligned President George W. Bush. There's no doubt that history will vindicate the president who went far beyond his Constitutional duties in selflessly protecting the American people.

For years, Bush's political foes have sought his scalp for approving the NSA's terrorist surveillance program and the CIA's black prison terrorist interrogation program. (Some in Congress intend to continue seeking his scalp even after he leaves office next month.)

Both programs were highly-classified secrets, but their existence was leaked separately to the New York Times and Washington Post by misguided anonymous government sources who obviously can't tell the difference between Watergate and the war on terror.

The NSA operation conducted rapid-response monitoring of domestic communications involving possible terrorist contacts; the much-criticized CIA interrogation program used foreign locales to interrogate high-ranking al-Qaida members and other terrorists possessing high-value information. Both programs have saved hundreds of innocent lives, perhaps many more.

To the president's opponents, however, these are unconstitutional abuses of power and serve as an excuse to try to destroy a two-term presidency that until lately was getting credit for a vibrant economy and its unrelenting struggle to fight the growing global terrorist threat, especially in Iraq.

There were no dark, Nixonian motives behind this president's approval of those two programs; there was only a determination to protect the homeland to the fullest extent possible — even if it meant risking his own political neck.

George W. Bush must forever get credit for that.

An intelligence official told ABC News this week that U.S. intelligence agencies warned India in mid-October of a possible attack "from the sea against hotels and business centers in Mumbai," while a second government source revealed that the Taj hotel and other specific locations were actually named in the U.S. warning.

About a month later, on Nov. 18, Indian intelligence intercepted a satellite phone call to a number in Pakistan used by a Lashkar-e-Taiba leader indicating a possible seaborne attack.

Whether our warnings to India were sufficiently heeded or not, it's clear that high-tech surveillance is one of the free world's best methods of preventing terrorism. It should be used as much as possible to prevent the slaughter of more innocents.

In a new report from Congress' Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, six months of study revealed what common sense long ago should have told us: Terrorists will use weapons of mass destruction against a U.S. city, if we let them.

Let us fervently hope yet another pleasant surprise from our new president will be that he realizes better than his fellow Democrats what works.

Texas Fred Sees that the Emperor is Naked or Iraq as the Legacy of George W. Bush

. . . No, G. W. Bush is not the emperor, nor is the next in line for G. W.'s position entitled to be bestowed that title. Emperors are passé and the emperor to which this post's title refers is the one in the Hans Christian Anderson story where an emperor is convinced (I don't remember how or why) that he is dressed in regal finery and his subjects are afraid to notice or remark that he not wearing any clothes--at all.

That is until one child cries out, "But the emperor is not wearing any clothes!"

If any entity can be compared to the emperor in this sad tale here, it is us, the people who were convinced by the Bush administration that after Afghanistan, Iraq was the place to strike our enemies next.

Although many of us were puzzled at the choice of target, we were flimflammed by images of WMDs that the evil (and he was evil) Saddam had in store for us.

But the question remains and festers: Why Iraq, when the Islamic evil emanated from Saudi Arabia and Iran?

Here is a bit of what Texas Fred has to say about Iraq in his post Bush uses final 50 days in office to tout legacy:

I can tell you right now, had I been on the advisory staff when the decision was made to go into Iraq, I would have likely made the BIG news. Iraq was an ill-advised effort, nearly everyone in the national security and Intel business KNEW that. I KNOW that there were some advisers that told Bush the truth about Iraq, but the truth wasn’t what the man wanted to hear. He wanted to hear support and justifications. Here are some of my reasons for believing that Iraq, and the continued prosecution of that war, is the cause of the current financial maladies that this nation is suffering.

We are dumping BILLIONS upon BILLIONS of OUR tax dollars into one of the most oil rich nations on earth, and we are seeing NO return for OUR investment.

Personally, I would NEVER have gone to Iraq . . .

James L. Jones Chevron Oil Company board member Obama's National Security Advisor

From Sultan Knish

Chevron is heavily tied to the Saudis, as the former parent company of ARAMCO, and its policy has been to promote energy interdependency with Middle Eastern oil suppliers. Which means more US dependency on foreign oil, rather than less.

Chevron company board members such as [Condoleeza] Rice or Jones, place the interests of Saudi Arabia before the United States, and are irrevocably hostile to countries that Saudi Arabia is opposed to. Naturally this includes Israel.

***

James L. Jones meanwhile had prepared a hostile report blasting Israel for interfering with the terrorist forces of the PA. A report that the Bush White House suppressed, but that the Obama occupied White House will be sure to enforce.

Putting an oil company board member in the office of National Security Advisor sends another All Clear message to the Saudis, which is after all only natural. Putting Jones in means we can expect another escalation in hostility to Israel, and kowtowing to the Saudis. More . . .
